Revived status as species Bingham, 1903: 80. Subspecies of rugosum: Wheeler, W.M. 1909d: 334. Provisional synonym of jerdoni: Emery, 1911d: 66 [Emery gives jerdoni as the senior name but if the synonymy is correct then sculptum has priority.] Currently subspecies of rugosum: Bolton, 1995b: 170.
